Take a ride on San Francisco’s new Culture Bus

San Francisco Culture Bus

Museum-hoppers now have a new way to get to their favorite cultural hot spots in San Francisco: the 74X-Culture Bus.

The 74X-Culture Bus is an express, two-way service that connects the SOMA Museum District, Union Square, Civic Center, and the museum concourse in Golden Gate Park, by one convenient bus route. Culture Buses run daily from 8:40 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. (except on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas), at 20-minute intervals.

The bus travels from the intersection of Howard and New Montgomery streets to Golden Gate Park and back, taking about 30 minutes each way. Making limited stops (five outbound towards the park and six inbound towards downtown), the bus drops riders off near major cultural institutions such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Asian Art Museum, and the new California Academy of Sciences, as well as a host of other museums, art galleries, and points of cultural interest.

Single flat-rate tickets cost $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, youths (5-17 years old), and people with disabilities, and is free for children 4 and under. Tickets are good all day, and can also be used on MUNI buses, MUNI Metro, and historic F-line streetcars (though not for cable cars). Riders who already have a Fast Pass or City Pass, can purchase a Culture Bus ticket for only $3.

Not only do the buses save time and hassle, they also provide a greener alternative for eco-conscious travelers. All the Culture Buses run on biodiesel fuel, and some are also diesel hybrids, so you can ride in good conscience.
