South Asian Film Festival
November 5 - November 8
From art-house classics to documentary films, from innovative and experimental visions to next-level Bollywood, the South Asian Film Festival is committed to promoting diverse images of South Asians through independent film.
This year's festival showcases films from South Asia and the South Asian diaspora including India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Kashmir, Australia, Canada, Germany, UK, and the USA.
Opening night spotlights the hilarious documentary Supermen of Malegaon, which follows the making of a micro-budget Superman film in the dusty textile town of Malegaon. Other highlights include documentary Yes Madam, Sir, which chronicles the trials, tribulations, and ultimate transcendence of India's first female police officer; Bay Area-based filmmaker Tariq Tapa's debut feature Zero Bridge, about a petty thief who dreams of escaping his tumultuous life in Kashmir; and a Bollywood extravaganza My Heart Goes Hooray! about a feisty Sikh woman who dons a mustache and turban so she can play on her town's cricket team.
