Virgin America announces new service to San Francisco International Airport

Virgin America, the newest U.S. start-up airline, has launched service from its home base at San Francisco International Airport, with three daily flights between San Francisco and New York Kennedy Airport, and five daily flights between San Francisco and Los Angeles International Airport.

Virgin America plans to add more destinations this fall, with service between San Francisco and Washington DC launching September 26, and service between San Francisco and Las Vegas launching October 10.

Virgin America bills itself as "a next generation low-fare carrier, with a host of innovative guest features and services aimed at bringing a little fun back to flying." On-board entertainment systems include on-demand movies, television, games, music, and online chat rooms, and first class seats have massage chairs.

• San Francisco-Los Angeles: from $49 one-way
• San Francisco-New York: from $149 one-way
• San Francisco-Washington DC: from $139 one-way
• San Francisco-Las Vegas: from $44 one-way
